I'm an American songwriter currently based in Dublin. In January 2019 I'll be on tour around the East Coast with my band, a mix of American and Irish players, who completed a live full-length studio album in June. It has been mixed and mastered by Forest Christenson in LA for release on Monday December 17. Musicians include Daniel Fox (Girl Band) on bass, Philip Christie (O Emperor, The Bonk) on keys, Ailbhe Nic Oiraichteagh (Cian Nugent, Josephine Foster) on viola, Naoise Roo and Bob Gallagher on vocals, Nick Boon on guitar, and Ben Engel on mandolin and percussion.—Cal
My original pop-opera The Woods & Grandma was nominated for three prizes and awarded the Little Gem at the Dublin Fringe Festival last September, with a supported run at Bewley's Theatre. RTÉ Lyric, the Irish national arts and culture radio station, will air an hour-long feature on the piece in December. We have also recently performed at the Dunsink Observatory as part of the Festival of Curiosity, and at the national heritage site Coole Park as part of Culture Night. At the Roots of the Stars, from a play by Djuna Barnes, is another long-form musical narrative which we toured around the US and Canada for 20 shows in August 2016.
I've played with Angel Olson, Jeffrey Lewis, Sean Nicholas Savage, St. Lenox, Sidney Gish, and the comedian Jena Friedman, as well as many tours of my own around Ireland, the UK, and US. My EP Adornament was released by Reeks of Effort (UK)/Trout (IE). This year I completed a masters in composition at Trinity College, Dublin. "A guitarist and chanteuse with jazz leanings, whose vocal control and stage presence command attention" (The New Yorker). "At the Roots of the Stars is one of the finest pieces I've ever seen. Fun, reflective, beautiful, important" (Scott Holzman, Chase Public, Cincinnati OH). "There is a sense of self and personality to the music... Adornament is a work of subtle and considered songwriting" (The Last Mixed Tape).
