Wasatch Mecha (Aaron Leitko) Aaron Leitko is a musician and writer based in Washington, D.C. He is a member of electronic duo Protect-U and has released music through Future Times, Planet Mu, and Mea Kusma. Released last month on Atlantic Rhythms, Wasatch Mecha gathers a number of Eurorack synthesizer pieces Leitko recorded in Spring 2015. The tape's title refers to both the Utah-Idaho mountain range and the '80s cartoon series Robotech. The latter provided indirect inspiration through its combination of hi-tech design and melodrama.
Sugarlift is an ambient/experimental/electronic sound project that combines field recordings with synthesized tones, amplified objects and vocalizations to create murky, ethereal soundscapes. Inspired by the work of Liz Harris, Pauline Oliveros and Delia Derbyshire, Sugarlift mixes haunting vocalizations with everyday speech and sonic textures to explore narrative imagery. Sugarlift is a meditative, intuition and improvisation-based practice. Often using materials that emerge from current crises which impel response and taking cues from Tibetan sound healing, Sugarlift aims to create sonic refuges for listening, remembering and imagining.
